My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness. - The Dalai Lama

Someone I never met and would not recognize today said something many years ago that I will never forget.

A high school upperclassman wrote under her senior photo:

While I don't remember what I wrote under my own photo, using this stranger's advice for 20 plus years has taught me the power of a 'silent kindness.' A random smile to a random stranger connects us, even for a brief moment, to say: we are in this together ... hello fellow being.

So we are unique in the way we look, think and feel, but are we not all on the same journey? We speak different languages, live different cultures, have different priorities and personalities, but when we take inventory on what really matters, won't we find ourselves all dancing to the same tune?

The answer is yes: we all have different versions of the same hopes and dreams. We are all from the same design.

Diversity is a suspiciously remarkable thing because much of who we are at this moment is a collection of the many minds and hearts who have entered our Lifetimes and left impressions on our spirits. These lessons and aha! moments of truth wouldn't be a part of us if we grew up alone on an island.

Never underestimate the power of another... we need each other to make our spirits, and our world, a better place to be. Whatever happens to some of us happens to the rest of us eventually ... because we are all connected.
